How to Keep a Housecleaning Schedule

Anyone who owns a home—or even rents an apartment—probably keeps a Éco Nettoyage housekeeping schedule.  Yes, this is important because you will have to clean eventually, and if you know what to clean and when, this process is much easier. With that in mind, let’s take a look at the things you should be doing daily, weekly, monthly, and annually (and, perhaps, sporadically) to maintain an optimally clean home.

DAILY CLEANING

When it comes to housecleaning, what you do day in and day out will actually affect the rest of your cleaning schedule so it is important to stick with it.  In terms of daily housecleaning, you should:

  • Make your bed
  • Wash the dishes
  • Wipe down kitchen counters and bathroom surfaces
  • Squeegee the shower
  • Sanitize sinks (bathroom and kitchen)
  • Sweep floors (hardwood, laminate, etc.)

Not only will these tasks make it easier to conduct deeper cleaning rituals at longer stretches, but simple daily cleaning of these particular areas ensure minimal messes that could attract pests like cockroaches, flies, rats, and more.

WEEKLY CLEANING

To ensure that your monthly cleaning is not overwhelming, make sure that you conduct these simple cleaning rituals about once a week. Or, perhaps it is better to state you should plan to do these, but you may not always need to:

  • Mop kitchen/bathroom floors (laminate, tile, etc.)
  • Scrub kitchen/bathroom surfaces (not just wipe, but use a cleaner)
  • Clean the inside of microwave
  • Clean mirrors/glass
  • Change your bedding (basically, whenever you plan to do laundry)
  • Sanitize your sponges
  • Dust furniture
  • Vacuum (carpet)

MONTHLY CLEANING

About once a month you will want to do some cleaning that is a little more intense and intensive. This schedule not only ensures overall cleanliness but makes sure your home remains sanitary, too.

  • Dust blinds (perhaps wash curtains, etc.)
  • Vacuum vents and any woodwork
  • Dust (and deep clean, if necessary) light fixtures
  • Clean out/sanitize dishwasher/laundry machines/vacuum machines

QUARTERLY/BI-ANNUAL CLEANING

About every three months you should check the following things.  They may not require cleaning (so you will check again in another three months).

  • Wipe down refrigerator interior and clean out freezer
  • Clean range hood and inside of oven
  • Wash the shower liner
  • Clean under and behind furniture (couch, bed, desk, bookcases, etc.)
  • Wash all pillows, comforters, blankets
  • Vacuum mattress(es)
  • Descale the coffee maker
  • Clean out, sanitize, and freshen drains and [especially] the garbage disposal

ANNUAL CLEANING

About once a year you should check/clean:

  • Fireplace/chimney
  • Washer/dryer and vents
  • Deep clean carpet and upholstery
  • Drapes and curtains
